Holidays with dog in Carinthia

A holiday without your dog? Unthinkable for many! At the SCHÖNLEITN hotel village in Carinthia and in our lakeside chalet , your faithful companion is not only welcome, but a valued guest. Here, the adventure begins right outside the door: roam through forests and meadows together in the morning, take a refreshing break by the stream at lunchtime and relax on your own terrace in the evening as the sun slowly disappears behind the mountains.

All-round service for your dog

In our spacious appartments, you will find everything that makes a dog's heart beat faster:

• Water & food bowls, dog blanket and dog towel in the entrance area
• Free dog waste bags in the village and dispensers on many walking trails
• Dog bar with fresh water & dry food in the village square
• Treats at check-in as well as toys and snacks at reception
• Fenced-in free-running area for romping around off the leash
• Dog sitting on request with advance booking

We charge €20 per animal per day for dog equipment (excluding food). We are also happy to provide cat equipment on request. Of course, dogs must be kept on a leash throughout the village so that all guests – with or without dogs – feel cosy.

Hiking, excursions & swimming with your dog

Numerous walking trails and hiking routes start directly from the appartment:

• Fuchsfährte to Aichwaldsee – perfect for a short walk
• Hike up Dobratsch – fantastic views and plenty of space to explore
• Gondola ride up Gerlitzen with a leisurely summit hike

In addition, the weekly programme includes regular guided hikes and excursions, where dogs are welcome. Many of these tours are specially selected to be enjoyable for four-legged companions and offer plenty of opportunities for breaks or refreshments along the way.

On hot summer days, the nearby Silbersee lake (15 minutes by car) with its own dog beach invites you to take a dip in the cool water. Small streams around the village also provide refreshment along the way. In winter, all guided snow hikes are dog-friendly – and dogs are also allowed on the cross-country trails in the Villacher Alpenarena during quiet times.

Dogs in the restaurant & village

Dogs are welcome both inside and outside our à la carte restaurant Dorfwirt SCHÖNLEITN, except in the buffet area. Four-legged friends are not allowed in the wellness area, on the sunbathing lawn or in the pool – but there are plenty of lovely places outside where you can relax together.

Everything for your dog nearby

If you need dog food while you are away, there are Billa and Spar supermarkets just five minutes away by car, and in Villach (10 minutes away by car) there are well-stocked specialist shops such as Fressnapf, PERRO, Futterspaß BARF Shop, Dexters Tierbedarf and Herz & Pfote.

If you need to see a vet

Several veterinary practices are just 15 minutes away, including Tierärzteteam Velden, a large practice that is also easily accessible at weekends, as well as other experienced vets in Villach and Wernberg.
